I just acquired a 1985 250ES Big Red. The electric starter was fried, but it started fine on the kickstart. I put a new starter and new battery in and it turns over fine now, but does not fire.

It starts first or second kick on the kickstart. I am stumped.  Any idea why she will not fire on the electric start but starts like a charm on the kickstart?

I do not know the 250 models at all....BUT the 200ES can do the very same thing.  One I fixed recently did this and turned out to be the neutral inhibitor relay.
If the 250 uses such a part in it's harness...it's a good place to start.
