Giving this old machine which sat for 15 years a overhaul. Went to adjust the valves and this is what it looked like inside the cam cover. First question, should I have any major concerns, what causes this and what is the best way to properly clean it (air, wipes etc).

This is quite common with the BIG REDS I have gotten in the used market. No major concerns just iron oxide (rust) that occurs over the years. I clean it with brake cleaner. Make sure the advance springs are still there and not broken.

Thanks Mark, yes springs are still there, pull start works great and starts right up.  Wasn't sure if it was okay to spray that area down or not, but I will hit it with some brake clean and get it right.
